This looks great. I hope it is available for older kids too. Very good explanation of benefits by Mr. Martin. Had no idea that it is a two year old project. I’m not sure if this is a weekly event or monthly. I would think the kids would be looking forward to having this in their schedule.
I agree that Mr. Martin did a great job of explaining the program, and it was fun hearing the students share. Rick, the Middle School students have this class in the fall quarter and the spring quarter, meeting four days a week, I believe.. The level of complexity increases from year to year, and the students learn to take more responsibility and demonstrate more leadership skills as they move from sixth grade to seventh and eighth grade.
Several Lower School classes use the climbing wall and one other climbing element, but the higher elements are left for the Middle School program. A few Upper School groups have used the course to achieve their own objectives.
I’m so happy they now have this course on the St. Louis campus! I helped several times
when the Middle Schoolers went over to SIU in Illinois to the “Touch of Nature” course
they had there. Afterwards, the Girl Scouts in St. Louis established a course at one of
their camps and I was an instructor for 12 years. It was so neat to spend a weekend
watching the girls learn to get over their fears and help support each other. At the end
of the weekend, leaders on Sunday all said it certainly helped unify their troops, and
they noticed more cooperation and more confidence. I am now in Arizona & they
have a course at a GS camp here. It is such a GREAT experience!
