Principia College athletes take both parts of the term student-athlete seriously. As proof of that, in one sport alone—cross country—three individuals and both teams won academic recognition for their performance on the course and in the classroom last semester.
Casey Powell (C’13), Drew Clark (C’12), and Wylie Mangelsdorf (C’14) achieved 2011 Division III All-Academic Cross Country status. To earn this level of recognition, student-athletes must have placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships and achieved a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 during the 2011 fall semester.
In addition, the men’s and women’s cross-country teams as a whole earned Division III All-Academic status last term, which requires a team GPA of 3.1 or above.
